Allegany High School will host Preview of Champions

Allegany High School will host Preview of Champions CUMBERLAND The Preview of Champions high school marching band competition will be held Saturday at Greenway Avenue Stadium, Cumberland. Gates open at 4:30 p.m. with performances beginning at 5:45 p.m. Hosted by the Allegany High School Band, the show will feature performances by 12 bands from Maryland, Pennsylvania, and West Virginia. Bands will compete in one of four groups, according to band size, and are judged on individual and ensemble music, and music and visual general effect. Percussion, color guard, and marching and maneuvering are also judged for specialty awards. Those slated to compete include, Group I (35 musicians or less), Northern Garrett High School and Westmar High School; Group II (36-55 musicians), Beall High School, Southern Garrett High School, Musselman High School; Group III (56-80 musicians), Fort Hill High School, Williamsport High School, Frankfort High School, Somerset High School; Group IV (81 musicians and more), Boonsboro High School, Keyser High School. In the custom at Tournament of Band sanctioned events, the Allegany Band will not compete at its home show, but will perform in exhibition at the conclusion of all the other performances. Sponsors of the event are the Allegany High School Band Boosters, with the Fort Hill Band Parents Association operating food concessions. Tickets may be purchased in advance at Allegany High School and will be available at the gate.
