ALLEGANY MARCHING BAN IS
OFF ON THE RIGHT FOOT! WINS FIRST COMPETITION!
The Allegany High School Marching Band took
top honors at the 26th Annual Marinsburg
Band Spectacular held at Cobourn Field,
Martinsburg, Wst Virginia on Saturady, September
18, 2004. This competition was sanctioned
by the Tournament of Bands NOTE: TOB is
one of the largest competitive band organizations
in the country and currently has over 400
active schools encompassing nine states.

Eighteen high school marching
bands competed in Martinsburg. Allegany
had the highest score of all the participating
bands, 80.15, and was the only band to score
at 80 or above. Allegany competed in Group
III for bands with 56 to 80 performers.
Allegany won the Group III competition.
Allegany received the Best Music Award,
the Best Marching and Maneuvering Award
and the Best Percussion Award. Other high
school bands competing in this group included
Governor Thomas Johnson, North Hagerstown,
Petersburg, Urbana, and Williamsport.
The theme of the show for
2004-2005 is "1984." This show
features music from Bela Bartok, James Barnes,
and Samuel Barber. Allegany has 80 student
performers (65 musicians, 14 color guard
members, and one drum major) participating
in the current marching band season. Mr.
Larry T. Jackson is the Director of Bands
and is asssisted by Mr. Brian T. White.
Danielle Kennedy is the drum major for Allegany.
The Battery and the Pit Percussion Sections
Leaders are Zach Klipstein and Hannah Smith-Drelich,
respectively.
Allegany's next performance
will be at The Preview of Champions this
Saturday, September 25, 2004 at Greenway
Avenue Stadium, Cumberland. This Tournament
of Bands event is sponsored by the Allegany
Band Boosters and will feature 13 high school
marching bands from Maryland, West Virginia,
and Pennsylvania. NOTE: The Allegany Band
Boosters are stating 5:30 p.m. for this
event, however, the first band will perform
at 6:00 p.m.
